On winning at the front lines, the power of pre-mortems and a new ingredient for agriculture.
Welcome to Partnership Wednesday! Here are 3 ideas from me and 1 question for you to consider this week to create partnerships you never thought possible, plus additional insight from the Partnership+ podcast.
3 IDEAS FROM ME
I.
Conducting a partnership pre-mortem is a powerful exercise that looks at a partnership prior to its creation and imagines it has failed. Working backwards from failure helps a team to better identify risks. Importantly, a 60-minute pre-mortem often creates relief for teams because they can express concerns to leaders and managers before a decision is made to commit to the partnership, and prior to the impact of failure.
II.
Partnerships are often won on the front lines. When entering a partnership, build in time to meet with people involved in making the partnership a success. If nurses are at the front line of helping recruit patients for a clinical trial, spend time with the nurses. If call centre operators are the ones creating sales referrals to another part of your business, spend time with the operators (better yet, join in on some of the calls).
III.
Agriculture equipment industry leader John Deere recently entered into a strategic partnership with SpaceX to expand rural connectivity. When Government and traditional telecoms couldn't fix a big problem, they turned to SpaceX and their StarLink network. It won’t be long before SpaceX is a core ingredient in agriculture, helping farmers to fully leverage precision agriculture technologies.
