On getting to the coal face, communicating in four steps and the power of associations

In partnership with FIVERR

Welcome to Partnership Wednesday! Here are 3 ideas from me and 1 question for you to consider this week to create partnerships you never thought possible!

3 IDEAS FROM ME

I.

The health of a partnership reveals itself through non-verbal cues and informal feedback. The most effective way to gauge that health is to regularly visit people on the front lines who are doing the heavy lifting to make a partnership successful.

II.

The single greatest accelerant to partnership formation is a clear ask. When two parties are able to clearly express their need and then work together to align incentives, magic happens.

III.

How can you maintain trust and transparency in a partnership amid challenging times? I was this asked this question from the crowd this week. Here’s my answer:

Trust equals consistency over time. Consistency in communications and candour during turbulent times is especially important, particularly when unexpected or bad news needs to be shared.

Here is a helpful four-step framework to apply when communicating (in all conditions):

  1. Context - Reassert the mission and operating environment so the message that follows can be grounded in that reality

  2. News - Deliver the news or update in a factual and respectful manner, less is more.

  3. Scenarios and Next Steps - If the immediate next steps are not clear, share three scenarios for what the immediate future may hold, it reassures people that you will lead them into the future

  4. Questions - Always welcome questions and answer them honestly

1 QUESTION FOR YOU
