How to make partnerships worthwhile, starting spreadsheets and turning potential into action

In partnership with FIVERR

Welcome to Partnership Wednesday! Here are 3 ideas from me and 1 question for you to consider this week to create partnerships you never thought possible!

3 IDEAS FROM ME

I.

If a spreadsheet has not been opened and calculations made in the lead up to a partnership announcement, failure is all but guaranteed.

II.

Focus on three incentives when forging a partnership. How individual contributors on the partnership teams will be rewarded and celebrated, how organisations will benefit and how the partnership will speak of the journey and the outcomes that could have only been achieved by joining forces.

Drafting a media release for how the partnership will be announced is the best place to start.

III.

How can you negotiate effectively with a partner for a win-win conflict resolution? I was this asked this question from the crowd this week. Here’s my answer:

No partnership survives without shared language. Before agreements, incentives and goals there is a need to deeply understand your partner, what drives them, their vulnerabilities and what it will take for you to earn their trust.

This means asking clarifying questions of topics that may seem obvious, like how is success measured today and how could that change in the future? What does [insert technical term] mean? What's an example of a partnership that failed previously and how can we avoid falling into the same trap?

The benefits of developing shared language are worthwhile and significant. It's a journey and two way street that is recognised as a lead indicator for partnership success.

1 QUESTION FOR YOU

When you see potential for a new partnership, what’s the first thing you do to turn that potential into action?
