The partnership that saved Apple, collaborating with adversaries and how to design powerful incentives

Welcome to Partnership Wednesday! Here are 3 ideas from me and 1 question for you to consider this week to create partnerships you never thought possible!
3 IDEAS FROM ME
I.
Designing an effective incentive program for new business partners revolves around two key questions:
How will our partnership help you in your role? This reveals how organisations reward their people, allowing for tailored incentives that drive progress for specific individuals and teams.
How could this partnership be a game changer for your organisation? This adds depth to publicly available objectives, helping craft value propositions that can be shared within the partner organisation.
II.
Industries face a myriad of common problems that exist before the point of competitive advantage. The best industry associations never lose sight of this and live in a continuous state of reinvention to ensure they create space for adversaries to collaborate as partners.
III.
What do you do when partnership dynamics have taken an unexpected turn? I was this asked this question from the crowd this week. Here’s my answer:
When partners enjoy a shared language and ambition, talk regularly and have built trust through routines and rituals that promote respect, ‘unexpected changes in dynamics’ rarely happen. This is because the partners abide by one important rule: No surprises. If unexpected changes in dynamics do happen, reset the factors above that make business partnerships a game changing core competency.
1 QUESTION FOR YOU
What’s the first thing you do to turn the potential for partnership into action?
