Headspace’s growth strategy, how to think about ending partnerships and your one clear message

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH BE IN MOTION

Welcome to Partnership Wednesday! Here are 3 ideas from me and 1 question for you to consider this week to create partnerships you never thought possible.

3 IDEAS FROM ME

I.

Headspace, the renowned meditation and mindfulness app, significantly expanded its reach and impact through strategic partnerships. They partnered with over 2,700 companies to improve employee wellbeing, and Netflix to create an interactive experience, and with healthcare providers to bridge the gap between self-guided mindfulness and clinical mental health support.

Key Lesson: Strategic partnerships are instrumental in growth. Align with organisations with similar values and audiences, no matter how ‘out there’ the initial idea might appear.

II.

The most effective partnership agreements send one clear message: “We value you, and we’re going to make this partnership as rewarding as possible.”

III.

How should I think about ending a business partnership? I was asked this question from the crowd this week. Here’s my answer:

Endings aren’t always the end.

But bad endings have consequences.

There are times when partnerships need to come to an end.

Sadly, most forget this truth:
How you close a partnership says as much about you as how you started it.

When it’s time to end a partnership, remember:
✅ Be clear: Communicate your reasons openly and honestly.
✅ Be concise: Avoid overcomplicating the message.
✅ Be respectful: Relationships matter, and the people you’re parting ways with today might be your partners again tomorrow.

The best leaders understand this:
A closure that is high on preserving dignity isn’t just professional—it’s strategic.

Because every ending holds the potential for a new beginning.
