Partnership: On the power of shared language when forging relationships, and why revisiting assumptions is important
Happy Partnership Wednesday! Here are 3 ideas from me and 1 question for you to help solve your hardest problems through partnerships this week.
3 IDEAS FROM ME
I.
Productive partnerships take aim at one objective, an overarching measurable outcome they are proud to pursue.
II.
If a partnership objective is unclear, go back to basics. Organisations generally focus people to increase upside (revenue, growth, success rates, donations) and/or reduce downside (customer attrition, costs, reputation damage). The way into partnership is to move the needle on one of these outcomes.
III.
Creating shared principles and language before ‘diving into doing’ dramatically reduces the risk of tension, misunderstandings and partnership failure. This is covered in Tactic 3 (Closing Deals) in my free Intro to Partnerships Course which you can access here.
1 QUESTION FOR YOU
The term ‘partnership’ means different things to different people. Partnerships are also built on assumptions which can create advantage or cost you as time marches on.
What is one assumption you should review that might have changed since you entered a partnership?
