On framing new partnerships, the hidden value in origin stories and how to avoid aggression

In partnership with AUSTRALIAN RED CROSS LIFEBLOOD

Welcome to Partnership Wednesday! Here are 3 ideas from me and 1 question for you to consider this week to create partnerships you never thought possible, plus additional insight from the Partnership+ podcast.

3 IDEAS FROM ME

I.

When someone new joins a partnership team, encourage them to dive deep into the history and origin story of the partnership. The value they can add will be proportionate to their understanding of what’s come before them.

II.

Enter partnerships that have the genuine potential to change your world and instead of:

  • Seeking a large slice of the pie, bake a larger pie,

  • Leading with a legal conversation, enter conversations to establish intent,

  • Settling on a single monetisation model, create scenarios that meaningfully reward each partner,

  • Hoping a partnership will work, celebrate the fundamentals of showing up and learning that lead to momentum.

III.

How you can assert yourself in a partnership without being aggressive? I was this asked this question from the crowd this week. Here’s my answer:

Consider building a muscle for being consistently radically candid. As Kim Scott says, radical candour is what happens when you show someone that you care personally while you challenge directly, without being aggressive or insincere.

1 QUESTION FOR YOU

What smoke signals did you see in the lead up to a partnership coming to an end?

FROM OUR PARTNER

Life-giving donations for life-changing outcomes. That’s Lifeblood’s purpose and while their life-giving role started 90 years ago with blood donations, today they help more people in more ways than ever before.

Lifeblood is like a well-oiled machine and donors, like you, are their lifeblood. I have donated blood and plasma over 160 times and know the impact these donations have for people in the fight of their life. Right now, Lifeblood’s reserves of most blood types have dropped to critical levels so as a Wednesday Partnership reader, I invite you to donate again or if you’re new to donating, take the eligibility quiz!

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
