Being bold, how to start a partnership from scratch and one powerful realisation
IN PARTNERSHIP WITH BE IN MOTION
Happy New Year! In 2025, you will find more daily help and advice on how to build partnerships on LinkedIn, all with the intent to help you grow. I’m excited for your success this year so let’s go, welcome to the first Partnership Wednesday of 2025!
Here are 3 ideas from me and 1 question for you to consider this week to create partnerships you never thought possible.
3 IDEAS FROM ME
I.
In 2010, Rolls-Royce partnered with Tidal Generation Limited to harness ocean currents for clean energy. Despite facing engineering challenges and harsh marine conditions, the partnership successfully tested tidal turbines off the coast of Scotland, proving the potential of ocean energy.
Bold partnerships can unlock innovation in unexpected places.
II.
One powerful realisation dawns on great leaders and it's this: 'We can't go it alone'. The opportunity that occurs in this moment is equally profound. Remember, Apple would not be one of the world’s most valuable companies if it hadn’t sustained partnerships with over 100 other well established businesses.
III.
How do you reach out to potential partners on LinkedIn who you don’t know? I was asked this question from the crowd this week. Here’s my answer:
A LinkedIn connection request landed my biggest partnership, it was less than 20 words long.
At the time, my biotech business needed the right technology partner to move forward. Without it, we were done.
I sent a cold message to the CEO of our preferred provider and simply asked: “Can you help me decide which technology to choose—yours or your competitors?”
The CEO passed me to his team, and we built a partnership with his company. That partnership became the foundation of our success. Without it, my company would have failed.
Here’s what I’ve proved over 100 times:
• Sometimes, all it takes is one clear, honest ask.
• Partnerships can start with a single conversation.
• Help doesn’t always look like a deal—it looks like trust, collaboration, and connection.
Partnerships don’t just happen. They start with someone willing to ask for help.
Who could you reach out to today?
1 QUESTION FOR YOU
