Vertical farming partnerships, building trust and benefits of the 10-year mindset
IN PARTNERSHIP WITH BE IN MOTION
Welcome to Partnership Wednesday! Here are 3 ideas from me and 1 question for you to consider this week to create partnerships you never thought possible.
3 IDEAS FROM ME
I.
Indoor vertical farming is one important future of agriculture but it was struggling. Take Plenty, a leader in indoor vertical farming. They faced the classic challenge: Scaling a capital-intensive business in an industry still proving itself. Their breakthrough came through a partnership with Walmart. By securing a long-term retail deal, Plenty gained stability, distribution, and credibility while Walmart tapped into fresh, sustainable produce.
Key Lesson: If you're facing a growth ceiling, ask yourself: Who already has what you need?
Side note if you’re in Australia, Phyllome is a guiding light for the future of agriculture.
II.
Building trust in a partnership requires three clear, sequential steps you take together—each one proving how you collaborate to create real value.
III.
How should I think about partnership duration? I was asked this question from the crowd this week. Here’s my answer:
Most partnerships are built on short-term thinking.
12-month agreements, quarterly reviews, immediate ROI.
That’s the wrong approach.
Even if a partnership only lasts three years, you should enter it with a 10-year vision.
Why?
Because long-term thinking lets you place bigger bets:
→ You invest deeply instead of treating it as a transaction.
→ You build real trust, not just short-term alignment.
→ You create compounding value, making every year count.
Ironically, partnerships with a long-term mindset often deliver faster results because both sides commit beyond the contract.
1 QUESTION FOR YOU
What would it take to speak with a competitor to understand if they are (in fact) a partner?
