How to start partnerships virtually, avoid transactional deals and succeed in healthcare

I.

Partnerships can outperform traditional mergers. While mergers can be complex and risky, strategic partnerships offer flexibility and allow both parties to grow without full integration, mitigating potential cultural clashes.

II.

Leaders spot transactional deals posing as partnerships easily. If the relationship feels one-sided, recalibrate or find a better-aligned partner.

III.

You're starting a partnership without meeting in person. How can you establish trust with your new partner? I was this asked this question from the crowd this week. Here’s my answer:

Starting partnerships remotely is the new norm. Here is my 5 part playbook to collapse the time to trust and forge new partnerships.

  1. Ask, "How will our partnership help you succeed?"

  2. Ask, "How could this partnership transform your organisation?"

  3. Set biweekly meetings to maintain momentum.

  4. Plan an in-person meeting to collaborate and celebrate milestones.

  5. When appropriate, ask about their hobbies or sports interests.

Steps 1 and 2 focus on aligning your support with their success. Step 3 keeps the partnership moving forward, while steps 4 and 5 show personal investment by celebrating their wins and interests.
