From colleagues to partners, closing better deals and partnering for growth

One question helps create and reset important professional relationships like no other: How can I partner with you to make your team successful?

To create long-term partnership value, focus on industries facing chronic shortages of a game-changing resource. Precision agriculture (the use of internet-connected sensors, robotics and AI to enhance farming practices), struggling with rising costs, food shortages, and dwindling farm succession, needed high-speed internet to thrive. Traditional telecom couldn’t deliver. Starlink by SpaceX did.

III.

You're negotiating partnership terms. How do you ensure both parties leave feeling satisfied? I was asked this question from the crowd this week. Here’s my answer:

Negotiations are smoother when both parties clearly understand why the partnership makes sense. To build that understanding, co-create a five-slide "intent deck" with the following pages:

  1. The key question both parties aim to answer

  2. Three steps to build trust over time

  3. A Venn diagram of each partner's intent, capabilities and why the partnership makes sense

  4. Collaboration principles

  5. A timeline to the first win and future milestones

This document serves three purposes: it rallies internal support, clarifies each partner’s value creation, and speeds up deal closure.
