On ending partnerships without burning bridges, how to bring people closer and why you should hire a journalist
Welcome to Partnership Wednesday! Here are 3 ideas from me and 1 question for you to consider this week to create partnerships you never thought possible, plus additional insight from the Partnership+ podcast.
3 IDEAS FROM ME
I.
When it comes to managing the end of a partnership without burning bridges, consider this aviation analogy: A controlled landing is always preferred over an uncontrolled landing. When it comes to ending a partnership, whether it's end is expected or not, always shoot for a controlled landing because there is every chance you might want to work with the same people again in the future.
II.
When it comes to the most effective ways to build relationships with other teams, start by openly acknowledging, particularly between internal teams, that you are here to forge and grow a partnership with them. Address them as your partner. Support them as a parter. Invest in them like you would any other partner with whom you stand shoulder to shoulder. It can fundamentally change the dynamic for the better.
III.
When it comes to improving your partnership story-telling skills, hire a seasoned journalist for these 5 reasons:
The understand the power of narrative and words
They understand that less is more
They know how to craft a story under the pressure of a filing deadline
They have built a muscle to identify facts and salient points, and discard details that are surplus to requirement
They (often) love story telling
1 QUESTION FOR YOU
Who can you play devils advocate for today (to help them make a better decision)?

Last week I shared Part 1 of a series on how you can start entering partnerships again after you’ve been burnt. In the next episode we cover how you can rebuild confidence in partnerships as a senior executive if you partnered with a smaller company that didn’t go well.
The good news is that one framework can help you, so let’s start there!
