A winning rule, navigating unexpected shifts in partnership priorities and learning from leaders

In partnership with FIVERR

Welcome to Partnership Wednesday! This week I have a question for you which I’d love your help with (scroll down).

And as always, here are 3 ideas from me and 1 question for you to consider this week to create partnerships you never thought possible!

3 IDEAS FROM ME

I.

Modern partnerships help achieve two measurable outcomes, one for you and one for your partner. Don’t over-think the first step of expressing what you need. This clarity drives outreach, trust-building efforts and reduces the time to outcome.

II.

‘People are tired’ is a good general rule to follow when pitching a new partner. Create a meaningful introduction, establish why it make sense to partner and layout a path designed to build trust on the way to achieving a shared vision. Learn how to do this in a five slide presentation here.

III.

How do you navigate an unexpected shift in your partner’s objectives? I was this asked this question from the crowd this week. Here’s my answer:

Objectives are build on intent. When a partnership's objectives change mid-way through a project make it a priority to understand if the intent of the partner has shifted. In other words, does the partner still want to combine capabilities to achieve a shared vision?

If the answer is YES, then continue with a conversation to realign effort with the new objectives. If NO, then the partnership may need to be reset and potentially concluded.

In both cases it's important to remember that time is extremely valuable. Engage in clear and kind dialogue, understand if intent has shifted and find a new path forward, even if that means bringing the current partnership to a close.

1 QUESTION FOR YOU

Who from your team do you need to congratulate for their efforts in forging new partnerships?
