Going from supplier to partner, improving decision quality and the future of modern partnerships

In partnership with MWAH. Making Work Absolutely Human.

Welcome to Partnership Wednesday! Here are 3 ideas from me and 1 question for you to consider this week to create partnerships you never thought possible, plus additional insight from the Partnership+ podcast.

3 IDEAS FROM ME

I.

Business’s who think about their suppliers as partners and look beyond a transactional relationship often enjoy improvements in logistics, cost, and product quality. Imagine if this change in mindset cut your stress in half and reduced your cost of goods by 15%. It starts by resetting the relationship sharing your objectives for a partnership, and asking how you can help to improve your supply partner’s business.

II.

When it comes to partnership, not all decisions should be made by consensus. The most robust decisions incorporate a diversity of insights and data, a clear expression of the decision and the path forward, and a scenario based plan for how to adapt should the decision not yield the expected outcome.

III.

What do you do if you want to rebuild professional connections after a layoff? I was this asked this question from the crowd this week. Here’s my answer:

Invest time to reflect with the intent to craft two stories. The first relates to your most recent employment experience, and this isn't just what you achieved, it's what you learned and found interesting - good, bad and ugly! The second story is the amalgamation of the first story and your career story up the point of accepting the role from which you just departed. This helps craft a proactive narrative for your next play and lessens the risk of walking into a meetings and interviews with a raw and reactive story that centres on your last role.

1 QUESTION FOR YOU

Could a close friend easily sell your product or service on your behalf?
